DayZ official website coming soonThe end of the beginning (DayZ Mod official site)That’s right, this is actually happening - DayZ will be developed as a standalone game, with me as project lead, by Bohemia Interactive. This is the fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago.
Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.
I realize people will have many, many questions - but we wanted to let everyone know the announcement now. Over the coming weeks, these questions will be answered. The game will have it’s own site, www.dayzgame.com and the mod will continue at it’s present link.

The Firing Line: This is not a PlanetSide 2 NDA violation edition (Massively)I finally got to log a few hours with the game last weekend, and while I'll stop short of a full review this time around, I will say that it's well worth playing if you're even a little bit intrigued by sim-style shooter gameplay. I've never been a huge fan of the Arma series mainly because real-world game settings bore me to tears, but Dean Hall's brilliant decision to add a bit of post-apocalyptic horror and unforgiving gameplay into the mix has won me over.Massively Interview: Bohemia's Matt Lightfoot on DayZ, modding, and zombie survival (Massively)The idea of a tough game that allows players more choice in how they play and interact, I think, is the key aspect with DayZ. Other games could definitely give players more choice and give players the opportunities that DayZ provides.DayZ creator Dan Hall 'depressed' about The War Z controversy (Massively)He also confides that the entire debacle caused him to "seriously consider" whether he wanted to be involved in the game industry at all. DayZ standalone version should arrive by April (Massively)Past the release of the standalone version, Hall said that he has plans to create a new map that centers around a western city.DayZ standalone version jacks up graphics, player customization (Massively)DayZ standalone's graphics are clearly improved from the ARMA II-modded version, and Hall includes side-by-side comparison photos of a town to show just how big of a difference the new engine makes. He said that the team is working on vehicle, character, and weapon customizations, although players will find that the real avatar customization will come while engaging in the game proper.Initial DayZ video blog shows new stand-alone footage (Massively)Topics include major map improvements, the new clothing system, a streamlined UI, and the newfangled ability to spawn loot inside buildings.DayZ's zombies are getting smarter -- and hungrier (Massively)The team's been focusing on the inventory system, a non-traditional crafting system, zombie pathfinding, security improvements, a more complex health system, map expansion, and more sensible loot.GDC 2013: Dean Hall on the pillars of DayZ's design (Massively)Though players often lament DayZ's strict "hardcore mode," it's the last thing Hall would consider changing. "This potential of loss is probably the most powerful vector of DayZ because when your character dies, you lose everything. It means you value it." Loss helps create what he sees as the game's universal language. "Players inherently understand that," he argues. "They understand the notion of risk, and it helps with suspension of disbelief."

Last I knew Day Z wasn't so much surviving the zombies but was surviving each other...this probably mimics real life.

The mod is still great, which I play on occasion.
Not sure if the standalone is ever going to come out though, lol. Can't wait to play it.

I've been playing a lot(almost non stop) of DayZ lately. There's a fairly new DayZ mod called Epoch out there, similar to Origins. It's called Epoch. You can build your own homes, mostly indestructible, and buy vehicles, items etc. Safes which lock so no one can steal important stuff There's a couple guys with the most amazing house I've ever seen. I'll try to take some screenshots tonight when I get home. I play on a server called Austerror if anyone wanted to check it out. There's a great bunch of people on there that are mostly friendly, almost no murders so far. It's in an Australian time zone though, which is why I play there, because I work evening shift and get home at midnight.

Has this game been released? I thought it was still being built.
Put up some screenshots Dort, I'd love to see them.
