Star Wars Galaxies will be shutting down in December, which means I'll be posting some memories here. A shame- the game had tremendous promise at one time. The cantina system that encouraged sociality and promoted non-combat classes, houses you could place almost anywhere on the multiple worlds (and which turned into player-run towns), the skill system...*sighs*

Something that was hilarious in retrospect- if you placed your house in a rough area, hostile mobs could spawn inside!

I liked how the NPCs would make comments. Here's one commenting over my corpse...see my response afterwards. Hey, it was a rough planet.

One might be able to argue they could have kept running if they hadn't pulled their infamous stunt, or at least been the place where those who wind up hating on The Old Republic go to gather and share mutual gripes which you know will happen. There will be haters, there always are

The emulator is still going strong; though I think the new testing seems to be going slow (I don't know, I'm not allowed on the new code base server. I think it's sort of a closed beta/bug testing right now). The old code base they had before they made a pretty hefty overhaul is still up and going as a server known as Liberator and there's always people around. I will admit to not having tried much in the socialization category, as most of them seem to be AFK and/or macroed when inside the Cantinas. This isn't too much different from when the game was live, though. I suppose it's possible there's socializers out there somewhere!
