House-shopping- in instanced zones, there were small, medium and large houses, this is a medium one. Wish I had a shot of the larger ones, villas I think they were called. Both players have Cetus Cloaks dyed different colors.Rhiam the Mentalist Lurikeen, proud owner of his new cottage! Some players would leave their houses unlocked so others could visit and see their interiors. The Hounds of Morrigan guild get their guild house. Notice the yard items.Inside the guild house, a meeting. Gack has the floor, speaking. There were seasonal and holiday decorations one could buy for house and yard.Whole neighborhoods could be owned by guilds, and have theme decorations. Note the Suilebhain guild banners on the houses.Houses were great places for parties! House decoration became a mini-game for some players. You could tell people were home when you saw smoke coming out of a house's chimney- that was a nice touch. Overall, housing in DAoC was done well, but you could do so much there (craft, teleport, heal, vendor etc.) that players rarely visited the towns and cities anymore, making the world feel empty.

Here's an image of the first house in Percival Albion... it was a very big deal. I agree that the fact you could craft in houses made the capital cities wastelands... in Ywain now, there is a bit more activity in the capitals. I think Mythic has a crafting bonus there. Here is Sinaedh and a guildy inside the Company of the Black Rose guild house after the decline (and clustering) had begun. Miraydon was one of my favorite folk... very kind and considerate, a Vietnam war vet fighting several disabilities. Unfortunately I don't have any sshots of the really big Hib houses. I do, however have an image of my little dwarf Hrefna riding her horse in a typical Mid village (I think that's the Ukjent Frykt guild house in the background) on Classic. As you can see, the smallest houses were... well, let's just say less than estates. I do like the larger houses tho.
