Wings Over Atreia: Conquering the level grind (Massively)
If you haven't heard about the loudest gripe ringing out over Atreia, please let me know what rock you've been hiding under lately so I can join you; even people who can't distinguish Aion from linguine seem to have this answer down pat! OK, all together now -- THE GRIND. We all know it, we all live it, and some have lost their remaining scraps of sanity due to it. Those who made it to level 35 still have the brick prints on their foreheads from slamming into that wall. Those who braved to 40+? Well, their foreheads are a bit squishy from repeated slamming.
Wings Over Atreia: To rift, or not to rift, that is the question (Massively)
Here was the idea: Rifts (portals) randomly open between the homelands of the Asmodians and the Elyos, allowing each to venture into hostile enemy territory. NCsoft even gives quests with nice rewards to entice players over into those less-than-safe lands. Each rift only allows a certain level of Daeva to travel through -- the easier the rift, the lower the level cap for passage. As the locations of the rifts move outward from the fortresses, the level cap increases, until you reach the final rifts farthest out in the most dangerous places. In theory, this will allow more even match-ups as you rift into like-leveled areas, right?
Wrong.
Aion : Go Mobile With Aion Exchange (MMORPG.com)
As part of NCSoft's aggressive new plan to take its stable of games cross-platform and to keep players connected to the MMOs they love, a new app has been released for Aion players. Called Aion Exchange, the app give players the chance to stay connected to the game by letting them view characters, track auctions, search for items and to create a wish list.
Wings Over Atreia: Taloc's Hollow speed runs (Massively)
Although only repeatable 20 times, the coin quest Death to the Queen available inside Taloc's is a quick way to stock up on mithril coins for personal use or sale. After killing Kinquid, you have a very short time to run out on the branch and talk to Hyas. Don't think you can keep him indefinitely by opening the quest dialogue -- he will disappear while you are speaking to him... even if you are about to click accept! Trust me; I had the unfortunate opportunity to test this.
Aion: Assault on Balaurea & 2.1 Interview
MMORPG.com's Bill Murphy recently had the opportunity to sit down with NCSoft Associate Producer, Sean Neil to talk about the 'westernization' efforts being brought into Aion with the arrival of the Assault on Balaurea 2.1 patch. In fact, Bill calls 'the Aion of today is pretty much a brand new game compared to the Aion of launch.' Check out Bill's chat with Sean. Be sure to add your comments!
NCsoft answers questions on Aion's new security (Massively)
Lance Stites: The implementation of this system in Korea did result in a very significant decline in hacked accounts. Keep in mind what "hacked" usually means -- phished or compromised by a Trojan horse. Our new PIN system is effective because it is integrated into the game client, whereas other web security systems that prompt players to enter name and password for account management could be recreated by those wishing to dupe players into sharing those credentials. Additionally, our PIN system requires players to enter the PIN via mouse input only, so it is less susceptible to key loggers.
Aion: Version 2.5 Overview
Aion players in North America and Europe have been playing Aion v2.1 for awhile and will see the second half of the update arrive in early 2011. Korean Aion players, however, are taking on the 2.5 update that will bring significant changes to the game. MMORPG.com Community Manager Michael Bitton had the opportunity to sit down with Associate Producer Sean Neil to talk about what 2.5 will bring to the table. Check it out and then let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
