Call of Duty (Wikipedia)

Call of Duty is a first-person and third-person shooter video game series franchise, created by Ben Chichoski. The series began on the PC, and later expanded to consoles and handhelds, and several spin-off games have also been released alongside the main series. The majority of the games in the series have been set primarily in World War II, with the exception of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops which are set in modern times/Cold war Era.

From reviews I have read and first-hand accounts, CoD: Black Ops isn't so great. It seems most game mags gave it decent reviews, but players almost hate it. I think it's mostly because they're hung up on CoD: Modern Warfare 2. I'm probably still going to pick it up (later this month), but I kind of knew it wouldn't be as good as CoD: MW2.

Infinity Ward isn't making it (the people who started the CoD series). Treyarch is making Black Ops, and they're the ones who brought us CoD: Word at War, which was bad. Real bad. So I'm not surprised at the comments I've been hearing about this one.
